pink 18th c

Question

I took a look at my heavy winter coat last night to find the armscye completely shredded on one arm. I don't know how that happened, but I'm not too happy about it. The leather of the coat is destroyed in such a way that it can't be fixed. Considering the color (pastel pink) I can't just buy another piece of leather and patch it (which is what I would love to do).

So, should I just throw the entire coat out or should I save the leather for scrap? I ask only because the coat has the most beautiful embroidery on it and I *think* I could reuse the non-shredded pieces in something else. (A waistcoat 18th c?) However, I also have uh...a few dozen projects, way too much fabric, and a broken sewing machine right now. So saving yet another piece for "some other project sometime" just seems more like hoarding than actually saving.

Basically, do I throw it out or do I keep the leather parts of the coat?
